Avoid Diabetic Ketoacidosis
As always happens at this time of year, there are a lot of nasty viruses around. Especially if your control has not been good, you are at even higher risk of rapid DKA if you don't pay attention to your blood sugar results and act if you have high levels. Remember, if you have a result of 14mmol/L or higher you MUST check ketones either in urine or blood and ACT if positive. This means KETONE or SICK DAY doses of insulin - see your red book or the back of your blood glucose record book for details (or check here online in the Patient Held Record in the Teaching section). If you are in any doubt then call for advice. Don't take risks.

PUMP - FREQENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Almost daily we receive phone calls and have discussions in clinic about the policy in Greater Glasgow and Clyde on insulin pump therapy. To help to address the demand for information, we have prepared an FAQ sheet and this can be read online or downloaded from here.
NEW CLINIC AREA AT YORKHILL
The Yorkhill clinics are now taking place on the 6th floor in the old Ward 6B which has been refurbished for outpatient work. In the next few months, we will also be redeveloping the end of the ward area as a new group teaching resource and office space so that we will have a Children's Diabetes Centre in Glasgow for the first time.
Planning has begun for the shape of diabetes services in the new children's hospital te of the Southern General Hospital. There are no plans to change the provision of services at either RAH, Paisley or Inverclyde Royal, Greenock.
