Gavin’s outstanding characteristics are finely honed computer skills, attention to detail and the rare quality of anticipating service needs and addressing them in his quietly efficient style (often before anyone else has even thought of them), his nursing diabetes skills withstanding.
Since 1999 when Gavin joined the team he has worked unstintingly and has developed many areas of expertise including non-type 1 diabetes, cystic fibrosis related diabetes, and diabetes secondary to taking medication used to treat conditions such as renal disease or cancer.
Gavin’s practical diabetes knowledge and clear IT awareness has allowed Magistral, the computer system that is used by the service, to be elaborated and advanced. This system is essential for the to the day to running of the service and aids effective communication.
Gavin’s skills have been utilised in the development if the Paediatric Module of SCI-DC that is the national computerised diabetes system.
The team is fortunate to have someone such as Gavin within the team whose unique set of skills complement those of others within the team.
