Most publicity centres on the rising numbers of patients with Type 2 diabetes and the association with obesity. However, the numbers of children with Type 1, which is caused by an autoimmue process which attacks the insulin producing cells in the pancreas, are also rising rapidly -by 2-3% per year in most countries.
This page acts as a portal to the sites of several Scottish centres which care for children with diabetes.
There is also a link to the Scottish Study Group for the Care of Diabetes in the Young. This health professional group meets twice a year to discuss new developments and to ensure that Scotland's children get the best possible care. They arrange studies and act as a pressure group and advisory body.
